A leaking garage roof soaks everything stored underneath it, and a failed felt roof on an extension can bring water into the house. We repair and replace garage roofs and felt roofs across Liverpool and Merseyside, from single brick garages in Old Swan back lanes to double garages in Maghull and felt-roofed kitchen extensions in Crosby. Chris looks at the roof himself and tells you straight whether a repair will hold or whether the roof is due for a new covering.

Felt is still the most common covering on Liverpool garages, porches, bay roofs and rear extensions. A well-laid torch-on felt roof gives good service, but older single-layer and nailed shed felt cracks, blisters and lifts at the edges after a few winters of wind-driven rain off the Mersey. Once water gets under the felt it soaks the timber deck below, and the roof starts to sag and hold puddles.
We repair felt roofs properly rather than painting over the problem. Small splits, failed laps and lifted edges are cut out and patched with new torch-on felt, upstands are re-sealed where the roof meets the house wall, and blocked outlets are cleared so water drains away. Where a felt roof has reached the end of its life, we strip it back and lay a new system. For larger extension and dormer roofs, see our flat roofing in Liverpool.
Garages around Liverpool come with every kind of roof, and each one needs a different approach. We start by finding out what your garage roof is made of and what is underneath it, because the decking and joists decide whether a repair or a new roof makes sense.
There is no single best garage roof for every home. A torch-on felt roof built in three layers with a mineral cap sheet is a proven, good-value choice. EPDM rubber comes as one sheet with no seams on most garages, so it is a popular choice where the roof is hard to reach. GRP fibreglass gives a rigid, hard-wearing surface that copes well with foot traffic. We explain the difference in plain terms on the survey and recommend the system that suits your garage, how you use it and how long you plan to stay.
A single EPDM rubber membrane bonded to a new or sound deck, finished with aluminium trims at the edges. It stays flexible in frost and has very few joints to fail. Our EPDM rubber roofing in Liverpool covers garages, extensions and dormers.
A modern torch-on felt roof is built in layers, starting with a base sheet bonded to the deck and finishing with a mineral cap sheet that protects the felt from sunlight. Torching each layer makes a fully bonded, watertight roof, a world away from the thin felt that was nailed onto many garages in the past.
Send us a photo of your garage or felt roof, or ring Chris and describe what you have noticed, whether that is a drip onto the car, a puddle that never dries or felt peeling off the edge. We arrange a visit, check the covering, the deck and the edges, and give you photos and a written itemised quote. The survey is free, with no obligation to go ahead.
Garage roofs rarely fail overnight. Most give plenty of warning, and catching the signs early can mean a patch repair instead of a whole new roof. Look out for any of these, from outside or from inside the garage.
If a small patch will see your garage roof through, that is what we recommend, even when a new roof would be a bigger job for us.
We check the covering, the deck, the edges and the drainage, then give you photos and a written itemised quote.
Damaged felt or sheets come off, rotten decking is replaced, and the new covering is laid in a single dry day where possible.
Old materials are taken away, the garage is left clean, and we photograph the finished roof for you.
Every garage roof and felt roof we repair or replace comes with a written workmanship guarantee, confirmed on your quote. A fair deposit covers the materials, and you pay the balance once the roof is finished and you have seen the photos.
Workmanship guaranteed in writing on every repair, with up to 20 years on new roof installations.
Quality torch-on felt, EPDM rubber and GRP systems that carry their own manufacturer warranties.
Full public liability insurance, and the owner on the end of the phone if you ever need us again.
Photos from our own garage, extension and felt roof jobs across Merseyside. Every job is photographed from start to finish, so you can see the deck, the new covering and the finished edges.

We look at three things before recommending anything: the age of the covering, the condition of the deck underneath, and how many places the roof is letting water in. A felt roof under ten years old with a single split is almost always a repair. A roof that leaks in several places, has a soft deck or is older than about fifteen years usually needs a new covering, because patching it every winter costs more over time.
Choosing between felt, rubber and fibreglass is the other big decision. Our guide to EPDM vs GRP for a garage roof compares lifespan and cost in Liverpool weather, and we will talk you through it on site. What tips the decision:
Every quote lists materials, labour, decking and waste removal separately, so nothing is hidden.
If a garage or extension roof is letting water into the house, onto electrics or onto anything valuable, call us straight away. We can usually make a felt or flat roof watertight the same day and come back for the permanent repair in the next dry weather.

Chris and the team did a phenomenal job. The work included a new garage roof, tiling an attached roof as well as other smaller jobs. All carried out with care and attention that we are told is too often lacking – Chris and the team prove that is simply not true – just outstanding.

I discovered a leak in my shed (1950’s flat concrete roof) I tried several roofing companies to request a quotes, mostly they didn’t turn up. I met Steve and Chris whilst doing a family members roof. They viewed my roof. Explained a few ways of fixing the problem. They turned up on time, did an excellent job. Cleaned up to an exceptional standard.

Liverpool-based, repairing garage, shed, porch and extension roofs across Merseyside, the Wirral and the North West.
Back-lane garages in Walton and Anfield, block garages on estates in Kirkby and Huyton, and felt-roofed extensions in Woolton and Allerton all need slightly different work, and we have done all of them. We carry out regular garage and flat roof repairs in Formby, and cover Crosby, Maghull, Bootle, Southport, St Helens and the Wirral.
A modern three-layer torch-on felt roof with a mineral cap sheet typically lasts 10 to 15 years, and longer when it is laid on a sound deck with good falls. Older single-layer shed felt often lasts only a few years. EPDM rubber and GRP fibreglass usually last 20 to 30 years.
Sometimes. New felt can be laid over old felt only if the existing roof is dry, firmly bonded and the deck underneath is sound. If the old felt is blistered, wet or the deck is soft, overlaying traps moisture and the new roof fails early, so we strip it back to the deck first.
It depends on the garage and how you use it. Torch-on felt is good value and proven, EPDM rubber is a one-piece membrane with very few joints, and GRP fibreglass is hard-wearing if you walk on the roof. We recommend the system that suits your garage after looking at the deck, the falls and the edges.
Many garages built before 2000, especially concrete sectional and estate garages, have corrugated fibre cement roof sheets that may contain asbestos. It is only a risk if it is drilled, cut or broken. Do not disturb it. Asbestos cement must be assessed and removed by trained, properly equipped specialists, after which we can fit a new roof.
Blisters form when moisture or air is trapped under the felt and expands in the sun. Small, firm blisters can often be left or cut and patched, but blisters that split open let water straight into the deck. Widespread blistering usually means the felt was laid on a damp deck and the roof needs re-covering.
Most single garage roofs are stripped and re-covered in one to two days, weather permitting. Double garages, roofs that need new decking or joists, and sheet roofs that need converting can take a little longer. We confirm the timescale on your written quote and work around dry weather so the garage is never left open.
We repair and replace garage roofs, felt roofs and small flat roofs for homeowners and landlords across Liverpool, Merseyside and the North West. Call Chris on 07933 828 045, or request a callback and we will ring you back.
